PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE get yourself acquainted with this beautiful woman, @Brooke_Jean. Brooke Jean hails from Los Angeles and is paving the way for young female artists like herself who’s musical truth lies in poetry. Her latest EP, A Poet’s Intuitioncombines spoken word & smooth a’capella with a timeless soulful/jazzy/hip-hop/r&b vibe. The first time I heard the EP, it blew my mind away, as Brooke’s rhythmic and serene voice commands every track. A Poet’s Intuition is amazing and an instant classic even though it’s short and sweet. But, I guess that’s kind of the point….it’ll leave you wanting more!
A Poet’s Intuition features vocals from Brooke Taylor, JaVonte, and Chevy Jones, and production from Willie B. of Digi+Phonics, JLBS of ColdBloodedSoul, Mel of Mel & D, ThaRealCstylez, & BizziE and The Beat Show.
Really thankful I connected with a Queen! Brooke Jean is the future. Best believe you will be hearing more of this talented woman.

Last month, @insightful_ew hit us with Feather’d Son—which by the way, has been in constant rotation since I downloaded the project. This month, Insightful hit us with an 8 track EP entitled, Blossom Beautiful. Best part? It’s a FREE download. Blissfully abstract, dreamy, dark, and so so so chill. It’s got that Insightful stamp because he has that knack for meshing complimentary obscure noises, and dim vocals together to make one amazing track.
In case you missed it, @PoetikForce dropped the visual for “11:11”, which is the single off his 2nd concept album, Elevens. If you don’t know by now and/or aren’t familiar with Poetik Force, GET FAMILIAR. The Asiatic Rhythms crew is really on the come up, and I couldn’t be more proud of them for making GREAT music for the people. Spread the word!
Next month, Poetik Force and Kaleem “Sincere” Wasif of Blakface will be releasing their collab ablum, The Adventures of $in & P. STAY TUNED. I will be spreading the word on this project….HEAVY. YOU NEED THIS ALBUM, I promise it’s a classic.

5/26 Come make some new friends and vibe to some dope beats from the man himself, @KaleemWasif.
Sincere (1/2 member of BlakFace) is set to release his debut beat-tape on 5/26 entitled, Beets—and is without a doubt one of the most slept on rappers & producers right now. Sincere’s production is all over the place—in the most respectable way because he doesn’t discriminate when it comes to blending sounds. His beats can range from slowing it down as you take it to the bedroom, to leaving you swagging with heavy bass lines—with a his very own stamp on the track. It’s really nothing new for him since most of the Asiatic Rhythms in house production comes from Sincere (www.poetikforce.bandcamp.com x www.blakface.bandcamp.com).
Kicking off the summer this June, Sincere will also be releasing a collaborative album with Poetik Force entitled, The Adventures of $in & P.
All I’ve been giving you on LUYL is organic, dope content. So, take initiative and come listen for yourself on 5/26! Save the date & spread the word.
Since Kendrick droppedSection 80, things have been looking a lot different for Top Dawg Entertainment. 30,000 feet in the air all year round, touching down hard with 3’s up, killing shows & festivals (really though), Backwoods, Backwoods, Backwoods, more fans, more interviews, more spreads…let’s just say they’re all living really damn GOOD. Looking for some inspiration? Well, there it is right there. Originality can get you as far as it’s getting TDE. With the venture deal to Aftermath & Interscope, the HiiiPoWeR movement has completely blown up even more than the last time I wrote that same line.
I recently caught up with Q, Soul, & A-Mack during my trip to Baltimore & D.C. a few weeks ago for tHe Groovy Tour. To be in LA supporting the movement is a totally different story. Not everyone in the East is familiar with TDE because most of them are stuck on the same sound from rappers with no bars. Sorry guys….anyone can rap over hard, trill, beats— it’s no longer a talent. All they really care about is whether or not the song bumps. But, to see ScHoolBoy rock his opening set for the A$AP Rocky show in D.C. like he would in LA was both HUMBLING AND CHILLING. Maybe that sounds dramatic, but when Black Hippy says, “WE REALLY OUT HERE, MY N*GGA” they’re not kidding. Fans were rapping line after line, jumping and screaming for Q as he jumped in the crowd, chanting with him, holding their 3’s high in the air, and they got extremely hyped when A-Mack cued Kendrick’s “ADHD”. Q was on his groovy shit. During A$AP’s set, I walked backstage into a small room to say hi to Q and Soul….& there they were. Sitting with their fam, unwinding, waiting to get the session started. Q’s rolling up as I walk in and Ab-Soul greets me with his bright smile that generously outsizes his fro, and a hug. That’s what made it humbling. To see TDE rock a set across the country and chill with their family in that small ass room backstage waiting for the show to end like it was NOTHING. The Baltimore show on 5/1 was a different story…the venue didn’t sell out, but the fans went HARD. Ab-Soul swagged with a few jams from Longterm 2 & Longterm Mentality, leaving the crowd with just a taste of Control System. ScHoolBoy walked out with shades & a hoodie on and opened with “Sacrilegious”. Q took everyone back with Setbacks and had one of his fans come up and perform with him. The show was amazing…L.A. shows are FUN, but this one had to be my favorite because I was able to appreciate the music that much more knowing I flew across the country. 3’s in the air and everyone was jumping. After the show Ab-Soul and Q both mingled and took pictures with their fans. We finally moved backstage, rolled up for a massive session, vibed and watched Soul and Q do an interview with strictlyhiphop.com. The interviewer asked what the future holds for TDE, and all they could really say was they’re ready to take over the Grammy’s and ready for TDE to become a major label. YUP. Me too. They deserve it. Everything they put out just shuts rappers down…& they know they’re shutting them down without even saying a word about it. I left the East completely inspired. Ab-Soul told me to “NEVER STOP BEING INSPIRED”. He’s right…I see them living good and think if they can do it, so can I. So can WE. There’s the inspiration many of you need. I saw my dreams come true while witnessing the guys I look up to LIVING their dreams. Believe it. Much respect to TDE….smoke good, eat good, live good.
The shine is now on Ab-Soul. DOWNLOAD the new album,Control System on iTunes and open your third eye….fuck the radio. You won’t find any of that there. His rhythmic word play and the lurking, underlying messages about life leave you wondering if you side with Ab-Soul’s vices or virtues. Either way Control System is probably the best release out so far in 2012 because it’s completely next level. You hear it in Soul’s voice, and you hear it in the production & mixing. You can’t listen to the album without thinking of Alori Joh either (RIP <3). Maybe XXL will open their ears for the next Freshmen list—but, let’s face it, TDE graduated.
